How to make the most of the library
One of my absolute favourite things about the University of Reading has got to be the library. Set over 6 floors, it is the perfect place to go for a huge variety of things. Here are some of my tips for making the most of this amazing facility and using it as a resource throughout your time at uni. The library is open 24/7 every weekday during term time, meaning that it is suited to any schedule. It is situated in the centre of campus and is equipped with a café, water fountains, vending machines, hundreds of plug sockets, lifts and toilets so it is very easy to stay there for as long as you need to. One thing that the library has plenty of is, of course, books! These can be borrowed, and you can simply renew it if you would like to keep it for longer. This means that you can keep books for as long as you need them for. Many of the books can also be found on the online library portal so this is a great option if the book you need is on loan. It took me a few months to discover the huge array of fiction books which were available which is great for some leisurely reading to unwind and switch off from studying for a while. There are a huge number of different study spaces available. These include silent areas, pods which can be booked out for group work or study with friends, and general non-silent study zones. This means you can find somewhere suited for you regardless of how you best study. There is also plenty of seating in the café and outside the front of the entrance. My personal favourite place to go is somewhere for silent study on the highest possible floor as this gives you an amazing view across campus. The library is home to hundreds of computers you can use for your work, but it also houses several photocopiers and printers which are available for all students and staff to use. These are affordable so are perfect for printing out lecture notes or making revision resources. I wish I had made more use of these so would recommend checking them out. The library also has support services on offer such as IT help and study advice. I strongly recommend making the most of these resources whilst you can to try and get some tips on the best ways to revise and learn as much as you can. I hope this information has been helpful in teaching you some of the best and most effective ways to utilise the library. It really does have something for everyone and can accommodate so many different study needs.
