Secret Garden in UoR
I was always fascinated by Alice in Wonderland, and this secret garden in UoR is like the actualisation of the world illustrated in the story. When I talk to my friends, most of them don't know about this garden, so I figured why don't I just introduce it to you so you can be the cool kids :> This garden is called Harris Garden, and it is located inside the Whiteknights campus - near the School of Biological Sciences (Glasshouse and Grounds) and the Agriculture building. It may take a while to find its entrance, but all is worth it once you enter this beautiful garden. This botanic garden was established in 1972. Initially used for teaching and research by the School of Biological Sciences, it now serves as a recreational and conservation space open to the public, featuring various botanical collections and landscapes like ponds, streams, formal gardens, wildflower meadows, and more. I went there once during Autumn when I first came to Reading, and it was very pleasing. I thought it would be a quiet and small garden at first, but surprisingly, it was very spacious with many greenery. There were also families having picnics and married elderly couples taking pictures with the beautifully bloomed flowers. After a quick search only, I realised there are at least 19 notable areas in the garden. How magnificent is that? Born and raised in a city, I don't get to appreciate nature as much as I wish I could, together with the hectic study schedules I had, Harris Garden is hands down one of my favourite places on campus to catch my breath. Especially when Spring is approaching, more flowers are anticipated to bloom in this garden, adding even more colour to this palate. What's more is that this garden is opened to the public, so you can easily invite your friends and family to spend some time in this lovely garden. I can't wait to revisit this place and immerse in the flowery scenery! So here it is, my now not-so-secret garden. I really encourage you to visit this gorgeous botanic garden when you have the time, just to go out there and enjoy the scenery, the scent of the flowers, and temporarily escape from your stress!
