Beautiful natural spots in Reading
Reading has so much to offer as a place to live, but the thing which stands out for me is how many beautiful areas of nature there are. Although it is such a busy town with so much going on, just a few minutes from this you can find plenty of stunning places to relax and unwind. A really cool fact about the University of Reading is that it is actually home to some of the most popular natural scenery in the whole town. People from all around Reading come to the uni for walks with their family or pets as it is such a pretty place. One of the most popular spots is the Whiteknights Lake. This has a path that goes all the way around, allowing you to observe the beautiful water, amazing animals and bright plants that surround it. Another highlight of the Reading university campus is aptly named ‘the wilderness’. This is a beautiful woodland area which is home to plenty of lovely walks for both getting from A to B and just for leisure. I absolutely love going for a relaxing walk here to get in tune with nature and switch off from the rest of the world for a while. Campus is also home to the Harris Garden, an amazing natural spot which is perfect for enjoying wildlife and greenery alike. This is a lovely spot for a picnic with friends or for somewhere to listen to a podcast and relax. Whilst there are many beautiful spots on campus, there are also plenty of places off campus which are perfect to enjoy nature in. Reading has a huge number of parks which are all within walking distance of the university campus. The most popular one would likely be Palmer Park, a popular spot with students due to its proximity to many student houses. It comes with a studio, gym, swimming pool, café and plenty of open space! Another popular spot is Forbury Park, which is located nearer the town centre. There is also Cintra Park, a favourite of mine, and if you are willing to venture slightly further out then you will find Prospect Park, a huge and very popular spot for families and students alike in Reading. My absolute favourite spot that I discovered this year is called Waterloo Meadows. I might be a bit biased as it is near where I live, but I think it is such a magical spot in Reading. It is accessible through a beautiful canal walk where you can spot lots of friendly dog walkers and lovely nature. There is a park and benches, and this spot is the perfect place for a picnic. I absolutely love going here for a walk to clear my mind or finding a spot to sit with a book in the sun. I hope this has highlighted some of the natural beauty Reading has to offer, click here for a map of campus to see where you can find some of these great spots.
