Student Bank Accounts
Student Bank Accounts Student bank accounts are a great way to store your money at university as they offer many advantages that standard bank accounts might not. There are many different banks that offer student accounts, here are the top 3: Santander Edge Student Account - I believe this is the best student account as it gives a definite £1,500 0% overdraft in years one to three, provided you register for online banking and pay in £500+ every four months. You can also claim a free four-year 16-25 Railcard (worth £100) which gets you a third off many rail tickets – though it's not valid in Northern Ireland. Who can open the account? - First-year students and those starting a level 4-7 apprenticeship. NatWest Student Account - Student accounts start with a definite £500 0% overdraft, though, again, how much you'll get in later years depends on your credit record and you'll need to ask for the increases. New student accounts also get a four-year tastecard which gives discounts at thousands of UK restaurants, as well as cinema and days out Who can open the account? - You must be on a UCAS-accredited undergraduate course of 2+ years, a full-time post-graduate course, or training to be a nurse. HSBC - Get a guaranteed interest-free limit of up to £1,000 when you apply for a Student Account, regardless of what year you're in, which could rise to £3,000 by year 3. Access their 5.00% AER / gross Regular Saver which is accessed when you start saving from just £25 a month with our Regular Saver. Save between £25 and £250 a month for a fixed 12-month term. Who can open the account? - 18 and over, live in the UK and have lived in the Uk, Channel islands or Isle of Man for the past 3 years and have proof you've been accepted onto a qualifying course (eg your 16-digit UCAS code) Any one of these 3 Student bank accounts are very beneficial to any students. The first two however are especially good as they include extra benefits such as a railcard or tastecard, however the HSBC one is equally as good without the added perks. There are also many other banks that offer student bank accounts just these three were rated the best in 2024. Always make sure to do your research when applying for a bank account and check out any terms and conditions that may apply.
